| Dispensing with Y-Stick 2 |

How the Y-Stick works:Y-Stick always shows the horizontal along the front and rear pins of the swinging plumb-line. With the lightest touch the optician can freeze the plumb-line and record the horizontal line of sight for the patient in any posture. Because the optician operates the brake arm from the side, the patient is not distracted and consequently retains the same posture. Compare that to the current method where the optician is obliged to stand closely and directly in the patient's line of sight. The patient naturally observes the optician and adopts a different posture and head position. How to use the Y-Stick:
Step 1
Place Y-Stick on previously adjusted frame and slide scale to appropriate base line position. The top of the base line should be flush with the lower frame eyerim as shown below. Step 2
Place the frame and Y-Stick on the customer with the brake in the upright position as shown below. Step 3
Ask the customer to stand and step to one side. Ask her to look straight ahead and assume a relaxed, natural posture, then lightly touch the brake arm to lock the swing assembly in place. Step 4Now, sit across from the customer at the dispensing table. Ask the customer to raise or lower her head so the front and rear pins are aligned and appear as one
Step 5Read the pupil height from arms length. Notice the pins below aligned in the proper position. Colored lines are 10mm apart and white lines are 2mm apart.
