Habits Are Everything
The Stoic philosopher, Epictetus once said,"Every habit and capability is confirmed and grows in its corresponding actions, walking by walking, and running by running... therefore, if you want to do something make a habit of it, if you don't want to do that, but make a habit of something else instead. The same principle is at work in our state of mind. When you get angry, you've not only experienced that evil, but you've also reinforced a bad habit, adding fuel to the fire."
Growth, improvement, great accomplishments, making the world a better place... none of these happen overnight or even as the result of a single great effort. They almost always happen as a result small consistent efforts applied over time.
Likewise, if you find yourself in a rut, take a look at your habits. Do you tend to complain instead of finding solutions? Spend too much time in front of screens? Eat or drink as a form of stress relief? Are your habits moving you toward a better, healthier, happier life for your and those around you? Or keeping you in that rut?
Whether good or bad, it’s the little things—your habits—that over time, are everything.
“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”

How Caring About Others
Will Increase Your Sales Make You A Better Person
Do this a few times and I can almost guarantee that
when your pain-in-the-ass, entitled customer comes in ranting, you will be awash in self-confidence,you will be a better person, knowing what’s really important.
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Speaking of Caring
These, without a doubt, are some amazing people.
If you’d like to help the hurricane Harvey victims, giving to organizations like the Red Cross is almost never a bad thing.
But helping local efforts directly can help ensure more of your donation reaches its intended destination.
From Van Rue via Ask The Lab Guy Facebook group:
The devastation is Southeast Texas and Louisiana is beyond comprehension. I am already starting to gather optical supplies for practices and patients in need. We may need to help replace the 10s of thousands pairs eyewear or SCLs, and supply hundreds of practices that can't function because of a loss of equipment. Alexandra Peng Charton and Kevin Cross with Schneider have already donated warehouse space in Dallas. But I am asking everyone to start looking around now in drawers for: optical tools, exam equipment, laptops, and even frames that could be available for donation and ask you to gather those together so we get things moving as soon as possible. Laptops (to get Rxs) and Contact Lens solution will probably be the first needs. Cas Flores is already on the ground distributing optical supplies.
