How To Deal With Toxic People At Work
My wife, a teacher, often hears the excuse, “But, he made me do it.” to which she responds, “No one makes you do anything.” I’ve always liked that line; the idea that you are ultimately responsible for your own actions, regardless of the actions of those around you. I also like to extrapolate that into, a more difficult to put into action, but no-less true, “No one makes you angry or frustrated or bitter or [fill in your reactive emotion here].” In other words, we can’t control how other people act, but we have 100 percent control over how we choose to react or feel about it. This way of thinking can go along way toward making the situation with toxic people [or any undesirable situation] more tenable, since much of the negativity we experience is self-imposed, Admittedly, sometimes you need to do more than to control your own emotions. Here are some more tips on dealing with toxic people at work.

Warby Parker’s New App Checks Your Vision and Writes A Prescription
The app helps the user pace off the right distance to conduct the equivalent of the familiar Snellen chart on a computer screen. A doctor reviews the results, and if there’s no change in eyesight, the user can get an updated prescription. Otherwise, she may be directed to get a more thorough exam from a doctor in person. So far, it’s only available in California, Florida, New York, and Virginia, with more states to come.
My advice: Accept the reality. Throw away your bitterness. We’re just getting started. There’s so much more of this to come. Instead, direct that energy toward giving your customers a reason to choose you (not because you’re a professional, or provide better quality, or you're proud of your scrubs). You should have figured out by now that customers don’t care.). Make them say “Wow!” from the minute they walk in the door until long after they leave.
Cathy Ives recently wrote on the Optical Vision Site about how many optical retailers are figuring this out.
When it comes to your customers, even the angry ones, always remember complaints are a gift.
