Tokai Optical originally released a 1.71 material in Japan in 1999 and Europe in 2000 but has since re-released the series in 1.70 because the 1.70 material has superior tensile strength and processability. With excellent sales of these lenses in Japan and Europe, now these ultra high 1.70 index lenses are available in the U.S.

1.70 SV - An ultra high 1.70 refractive index combined with Tokai's aspherical design allows the thinnest and lightest lens currently available. The 1.70 material has other distinctive features; such as High Tensile Strength for rimless frame and drilling compatibility, High Thermal Resistance to minimize deformation during surfacing/coating, a High Abbe value of 36 to minimize chromatic aberration, and UV Protection with nearly 100% cut at 400nm in all lenses.

1.70-13 Progressive - Designed to provide uncompromising intermediate and near vision in smaller frame shapes and sizes. At far vision area, it allows a clear wide view by equalizing distribution of astigmatism from center to edge. The 1.70-13mm has excellent intermediate vision by ensuring 70% of addition power is 9mm below eyepoint. .

1.70-15 Progressive - An ideal design for new presbyopes as it allows a stable far vision field and smooth progression from far to intermediate area for ease of patient adaptation. The 1.70-15 design has a nearly spherical front surface for far vision, minimizing astigmatism

The reading area of Tokai Progressive Lenses is stable and wide due to Tokai's patented ODN Design* (Optical Distribution in Near Vision, U.S. Patent No. 6,075,061) which virtually eliminates astigmatism at the nasal side of the reading area resulting in a large, easy to use reading area.

Available base curves are 3, 4, 5, 7, providing a power range from +6.00 to 10.00D sphere with up to 4.00D of cylinder, and with add powers from 1.00 to 3.50D in 0.25D increments.
