picture_thomas_porter.jpgDr. Porter, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Saint Louis University's Eye Institute where he also serves as director of the Low Vision Service. He also serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Saint Louis University as well as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Optometry at the University of Missouri-School of Optometry in St. Louis.

Dr. Porter is a Diplomate Fellow in the Low Vision Section of the American Academy of Optometry. He is a past president of the Missouri Optometric Association and the 1988 recipient of its Optometrist of the Year award. From 1985 through 1991 Dr. Porter served on the Missouri State Board of Optometry and was elected president in 1990.

He earned an undergraduate degree in journalism before his OD degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis Tennessee.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Porter serves as a consultant to several low vision products manufactures and distributors and his efforts have contributed to the development of several electronic and optical low vision aids.

Dr. Porter has written numerous articles and lectured extensively on his area of specialization both nationally and internationally. He is a regular contributor to several ophthalmic journals and newsletters.
